Heather Siewell Professional Counselor Associate

Hi! I’m Heather

I hold a Master’s degree in Psychology from Southern New Hampshire University, along with additional graduate coursework at The University of the Cumberlands. I have been practicing in the field as a Qualified Mental Health Professional (QMHP) since 2022, and I am a Professional Counselor Associate (#R12633) in Oregon, practicing under the supervision of Moira Ryan, LPC.

I have always known that psychology was my path, though I took a few detours along the way—exploring different careers and life experiences before circling back to what truly felt right.

Shortly after beginning my master’s program in 2015, my daughter experienced a major trauma. Living through that experience as a parent gave me a firsthand understanding of the impact of trauma and PTSD, and the importance of having caring, supportive people alongside you. That experience continues to deeply shape how I show up in this work.

I entered the social services field in 2019 and have spent the past several years working with youth, young adults, and families navigating complex challenges, including suicidality, depression, trauma, criminal justice involvement, and family conflict. My work is informed by both professional training and lived experience, allowing me to meet clients with understanding, compassion, and a deep respect for how difficult these experiences can be.

I am trained in Attachment-Based Family Therapy (ABFT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), and the Collaborative Assessment and Management of Suicidality (CAMS). I have also completed the Traumatic Stress Studies Certificate Program through Dr. Bessel van der Kolk, which strengthened my understanding of trauma and evidence-based approaches to healing. I draw from these modalities, along with additional clinical training and experience, to support youth, families, and caregivers in building emotional regulation, strengthening connection, and fostering resilience. I also incorporate practical, goal-focused approaches into my work when helpful to support meaningful change.

In addition, I am an active member of the Southern Oregon ACES Team, where I provide community trainings on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) to help individuals, families, and professionals better understand the impact of childhood adversity. I am also trained in the NEAR Science curriculum (Neuroscience, Epigenetics, ACEs, and Resilience), which supports my ability to explain the science of trauma and resilience in a way that is practical and accessible.

I approach therapy through an attachment-based lens, believing that healing happens in the context of safe, supportive relationships. My work is grounded in helping people feel understood, regulate their nervous system, and strengthen connection—both within themselves and with the people who matter most.

My goal is to provide compassionate, grounded, and practical support so individuals, families, and professionals feel understood, supported, and better equipped to move forward.
